I am always raving about the couples we get to shoot. Those aren’t just words. These aren’t just weddings. To me, relationships are one of the best parts of life. The reason we structure our engagement shoots the way we do and call them PhotoDates is this. Getting to know couples and capturing their love is important. This past Tuesday we didn’t just get to know Amye and we didn’t just get to know Sam. On their Mt Evans Colorado mountain engagement shoot we got to know Amye and Sam as a couple and it was beautiful!

When Marc and I got married and started planning and dreaming about our lives together a whole new world opened up for me. The joy he brought into my life when he was around was a feeling I wanted for my future. The person I was when I was with him was someone I wanted to continue to grow into. Love, as indescribable and elusive as it can sometimes be, is a beautiful thing and that’s what we get to celebrate and document when we photograph amazing couples like this one.

Amye and Sam stole our hearts the first time we met them. Their excitement for having us capture their love stemmed from the magnitude of the feeling of this moment in their relationship. Ok, so I don’t know what their motivations actually are but being around this couple reminds me that love is a big deal. Marriage is a big deal. For some reason in our culture we sometimes downplay finding a partner. We take it lightly. But love isn’t light. It isn’t just butterflies and chocolates, it’s teamwork and battle cries. It’s taking on life together, waiting out storms, and climbing mountains.

Tuesday was the summer solstice and we met Amye and Sam for an adventure on Mt. Evans. It’s pretty epic that so close to Denver we can summit a 14,000 ft peak and be blown away by our surroundings. We did indeed wait out the storm and climb the mountain. As a result we had amazing views of clouds on fire with the sunset glow, lightening storms in the distance, and layers of white capped peaks. My wish for this couple is that our day with them serves as more than a cheesy metaphor as they head off to live their lives together! Hang on to each other, your love is beautiful and I can’t wait to share it!
