Colorado Sunrise Elopement

Imagine waking up before first light, driving to a trailhead, hiking as the dark sky slowly fades to blue, and committing yourself to your relationship as the sun turns the sky the brightest of pinks. That was Matt and Rachel’s plan and we were instantly on board. A big wedding reception isn’t for everyone but that doesn’t mean a celebration isn’t in order. So many of the traditions that happen on a wedding day are in place to help make it more than just an ordinary day. I think that this Colorado sunrise elopement accomplished that.

As it happens the Colorado weather kept us on our toes. As we hiked up toward Black Powder Pass, there were rain drops falling. It was cold and yet we kept ourselves warm with elevation gain. Those rain clouds eventually made for a spectacular sunrise. It was cold on the pass and the wind was blowing, Rachel kept her jacket on and Matt skipped the tie. None of that mattered as they said “I do.” They exchanged their vows as the sky lit up. We then explored the abundant wildflowers on the hike down. It was a beautiful and vibrant day and we’re elated to share it.
